Formula and supported functions

Order of operations: brackets, factorial and percent, powers (right to left), unary minus, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. So -2^2 = -4 and 2^3^2 = 2^9.

Operators: + - * / (or × ÷), ^ for powers, ! for factorial, % divides by 100. Functions: sin, cos, tan, asin, acos, atan, sinh, cosh, tanh, ln (natural log), log (base 10), sqrt, cbrt, abs, exp, floor, ceil, round. Constants: pi, e.

In degree mode trigonometric input is converted with x·π/180, and inverse functions return degrees. Results are rounded to 12 significant digits.

This free online calculator handles everyday arithmetic and scientific operations in one box. Type an expression such as 2*(3+4)^2 + sqrt(144), or tap the keys, and the result appears instantly. It supports square roots, powers, percentages, factorials, trigonometry and logarithms.

How to use

  1. Type your expression in the field, or tap the keys below it. Function keys such as sin and √ add an opening bracket for you.
  2. Choose degrees or radians if you use sin, cos, tan or their inverses.
  3. Read the result in the result panel. It updates with every keystroke, and an inline message tells you what is wrong if the expression cannot be calculated.
  4. Press = (or Enter) to move the result into the field and keep calculating with it.
  5. Use the copy button to share a link that reopens the same expression.

How it is calculated

The expression is split into numbers, operators and functions, then evaluated using the standard order of operations: brackets first, then factorials and percentages, then powers, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. Powers are evaluated from right to left, so 2^3^2 equals 2^9. A minus sign in front of a power applies afterwards, so -2^2 equals -4.

In degree mode the angle is converted to radians with x × π / 180 before the trigonometric function is applied. Inverse functions return degrees in that mode. Logarithms follow the usual convention: ln is the natural logarithm (base e) and log is base 10. The factorial n! is the product of all whole numbers from 1 to n and is available for whole numbers from 0 to 170. Results are rounded to 12 significant digits, which removes floating-point noise such as 0.1 + 0.2 = 0.30000000000000004.

Frequently asked questions

Does the calculator use degrees or radians?

You choose. Degrees are selected by default. Switch to radians when your formula uses angles such as pi/2.

How do I calculate a square root or a power?

Use sqrt(25) for a square root, cbrt(27) for a cube root and the ^ key for powers, for example 5^3. Fractional exponents also work, so 16^0.25 gives 2.

Why does it say the operation is not defined?

Some inputs have no real result, such as the square root of a negative number, the logarithm of zero or tan(90) in degree mode. Division by zero is reported separately.

Is there a limit on the size of numbers?

Numbers use standard double-precision arithmetic, so very large results are shown in scientific notation, and results beyond that range are reported as too large.

Are my calculations stored?

No. Everything is computed in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere. The shareable link only contains the expression in the address itself.

A calculator is just as useful when you plan a trip: working out the cost per night, splitting shared expenses or checking a budget against a currency rate you have typed in. Once the numbers are settled, you can compare hotels and accommodation by destination and choose a stay that fits the budget you calculated.
